2018 Women in Engineering Empowerment Scholarship Results
Tacuna Systems and ANYLOAD are pleased to award Carmen Dyck (US) and Jessica Landon (Canadian) each $1000 as winners of the 2018 Women in Engineering Empowerment Scholarship! Their essays and resumes were testament to their commitment to STEM fields as well as helping others achieve their goals. Read their essays below!

Are you a female undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in engineering, science or math?
Tacuna Systems – load cell specialists is excited to announce our new “Women in Engineering Empowerment Scholarship”.
Women are still very much under-represented in STEM fields both in higher education and in industry. Our goal is to help equip one female student overcome this gender gap by offering $1,000 toward her studies in science, technology, engineering, or math.
Who Can Apply?
- Females only
- Must be pursuing a degree in STEM: science, technology, engineering or math
- Can be an undergraduate or graduate student
- Open to students attending a US or Canadian institution
- Entrants must be 17 years or older
- No GPA requirement
Write a 500 word essay answering the following question: What do you think can be done to improve representation of women in STEM fields?
Things to consider while developing your ideas:
- Enthusiasm – Passion is great, share it!
- Originality – Do you have ideas that schools, governments or industry have not thought about or previously applied to improve representation?
- Forward Thinking – How do you see the future shaping representation?
- Deployment – How can your idea be effectively deployed? What would be some of the obstacles to overcome?

August 1st, 2018.
The winner will be announced by September, 1st 2018.
Scholarship funds will be distributed soon after picking the winner and available for Fall 2018 semester.

Why is Tacuna Systems
offering a scholarship?
Many engineering fields still struggle with attracting and retaining females. Tacuna Systems specializes in electrical engineering and we have first-hand experience with this gender gap throughout our lives in both school and industry. Engineering trades are at the cutting edge of making technological advancements in our society and we wish to promote the unique perspective women bring to the table.
How often is this
Once per year. Applications are due at the end of summer and scholarship funds will be distributed for the fall semester.
Do you have previous
This is the first year for the scholarship, but we plan for it to be an annual offering. Scholarship winners will be announced on our website.
Can I be an
Students attending a US college or university can apply.
Can I be male and
Can I apply more than
Only one application per student per year. Previous winners can apply again the following year with an original essay.
What if I’m not a
formal student anywhere?
You must be currently enrolled or accepted and planning to be enrolled as a full time student.
When will the
scholarship winner be announced?
In order to thoroughly review all applications, the scholarship winner will be announced one month after the scholarship deadline. Winner will be personally contacted and will be listed on the Tacuna Systems website.
