Women in Engineering Empowerment Scholarship 2019

Tacuna Systems are excited to announce our annual Women in Engineering Empowerment Scholarship” for 2019.

Women are still very much under-represented in STEM fields both in higher education and in industry. Our goal is to help equip two female students overcome this gender gap. We will offer $1,000 each toward her studies in science, technology, engineering, or math.

One scholarship will be awarded to a female student in a US institution and one scholarship will be awarded to a female student in a Canadian institution.

Who Can Apply?

  • Females only
  • Must be currently pursuing a degree in STEM: science, technology, engineering or math
  • Can be an undergraduate or graduate student
  • Open to students attending a US or Canadian institution
  • Entrants must be 17 years or older
  • No GPA requirement


Create a video of NO longer than 2 minutes showcasing a STEM project you have worked on, or are currently working on.

Things to consider while creating your video:

  • Enthusiasm – Passion is great, share it!
  • Learning – What did you learn?
  • Helping – How did it help you and/or could help others?
  • Originality – Do you have ideas that schools, governments or industry have not thought about?

As part of the submission package please send following in email form:

  • Current Resume – including academic institution and anticipated graduation date
  • URL to project video

Email your submission to scholarship@tacunasystems.com before 12/31/2019.

Application Deadline

December 31st, 2019.

The winner will be announced by January, 31st 2020.

Scholarship funds will be distributed soon after picking the winner and available for Spring 2020 semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Tacuna Systems offering a scholarship?
Many engineering fields still struggle with attracting and retaining females. Tacuna Systems specializes in electrical engineering and we have first-hand experience with this gender gap throughout our lives in both school and industry.

Engineering trades are at the cutting edge of making technological advancements in our society and we wish to promote the unique perspective women bring to the table.

How often is this scholarship offered?
Once per year. Applications are due at the start of 2020 and scholarship funds will be distributed for the spring semester.

Do you have previous winners?
Yes! We had two winners from our 2018 scholarship. Carmen Dyck (US Winner) and Jessica Landon (Canadian Winner). All future scholarship winners will be announced on our website.

Can I be an international student?
If you are enrolled on a course in a US or Canadian college or university, then yes you can apply.

Can I be male and apply?
Sorry, no.

Can I apply more than once?
Only one application per student per year. Previous winners can apply again the following year as long as it’s original from the previous year.

What if I’m not a formal student anywhere?
You must be currently enrolled or accepted and planning to be enrolled as a full time student.

When will the scholarship winner be announced?
In order to thoroughly review all applications, the scholarship winner will be announced approximately one month after the scholarship deadline. The winner will be personally contacted and will be listed on the Tacuna Systems website.
