Planar Beam

Planar beam load cells have a flat, low-profile form factor ideal for compact scales and equipment where adding platform height is undesirable. We carry ANYLOAD planar beam load cells in aluminum and alloy steel.

Planar Beam Uses

Aluminum planar beams are common in medical and personal scales, bench and counting scales, kiosks, and other devices with a slim weighing surface. Alloy steel models extend the same low-profile design to heavier-duty platform and industrial weighing. Many designs use four cells, one under each corner of the platform, with a summing junction combining their signals into one reading.

Choosing a Planar Beam

  • Capacity: for a four-cell platform, divide the maximum total load by four, then add a margin for off-center loads and shock.
  • Material: aluminum is lightweight and cost-effective for dry, indoor use. Alloy steel offers greater strength and durability.
  • Mounting: the cell needs a flat, rigid mounting surface and the correct bolt pattern. Keep the load vertical and avoid side loads.
