Double-Ended Shear Beam
Double-ended shear beam load cells mount at both ends, with the load applied at the center. This symmetrical design handles high capacities and resists to side loads, making it a standard choice for truck scales, livestock scales, and large tanks. We carry ANYLOAD and AmCells double-ended shear beam load cells in alloy steel and stainless steel, including link-end models.
Double-Ended Beam Uses
Most installations use several cells under one structure: truck and rail scales, livestock and agricultural scales, tanks and hoppers, and heavy-duty platforms. A summing junction combines the signals so the indicator reads one total weight.
Choosing a Double-Ended Shear Beam
- Capacity: divide the maximum total load by the number of cells, then add a safety margin for off-center loads and impact, such as a truck braking on the deck.
- Material: alloy steel suits dry or sheltered locations. Stainless steel resists corrosion outdoors, in washdown areas, and around livestock.
- Mounting style: fixed-end beams bolt or pin in place, while link-end models let the platform swing slightly and settle back to center. Some models include mounting pins or links, so check each product’s mounting details.
- Certification: for a scale used in trade, choose an NTEP-certified model and capacity.
