Single-Ended Shear Beam
Single-ended shear beam load cells bolt down at one end and bear loads at the other, exploiting shear forces on the spring element. This allows their design to stay compact and low-profile, and makes them resistant to side loads. We carry ANYLOAD and AmCells models in alloy steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
Single-Ended Shear Beam Uses
These cells give accurate, repeatable readings in multi-cell scales and vessels. They are a standard choice for floor and platform scales, pallet and barrel scales, conveyor scales, and low- to medium-capacity tanks and hoppers.
Choosing a Single-Ended Shear Beam
- Capacity: divide the combined weight of the load and structure by the number of cells, then add a margin for uneven loading and impact.
- Material: alloy steel suits dry indoor use. Stainless steel models with higher IP ratings suit washdown and outdoor sites. Aluminum keeps light-duty scales low in cost.
- Mounting: mount on a flat, rigid base. For tanks and other structures that expand or shift, use a matching weigh module.
- Certification: for trade use, choose an NTEP– or OIML-approved model.
For a complete platform scale, see our load cell kits, which pair four cells with mounting hardware and a summing junction. For higher capacities, such as truck and livestock scales, see our double-ended shear beam load cells. To compare styles, read Choosing the Right Load Cell for Your Job.
