S-Type
S-type load cells, or S-beam load cells, measure force in line with the load in tension or compression, which makes them one of the most versatile load cell form factors. We carry ANYLOAD and AmCells S-type load cells in aluminum, alloy steel, and stainless steel, with metric or imperial (SAE) mounting threads.
Where S-Beams Are Used
Because they mount in line with threaded rods, eye bolts, or rod ends, S-beams suit hanging scales, small suspended tanks and hoppers, material and force testing machines, and mechanical lever scales retrofitted for electronic weighing. In a multi-cell system, a summing junction combines their signals.
Choosing an S-Type Load Cell
- Load direction: most S-beams measure both tension and compression. Check whether a model’s calibration is for one direction or both.
- Material: aluminum suits light-duty indoor use. Alloy steel is a durable all-purpose choice. Stainless steel resists corrosion in washdown and outdoor locations.
- Threads and hardware: match the thread size and type to your rods or fittings. Our tension weighing hardware includes eye bolts and rod ends matched to these cells.
- Alignment: keep the load path straight through the cell. Side loads and bending reduce accuracy.
