Wire Rope & Cable Tension

Wire rope load cells measure tension in steel cable and wire rope, giving crane, hoist, and winch operators a live reading of the line load. We carry the ANYLOAD 107CH, a nickel-plated alloy steel model sealed to IP67, in capacities from 10 kN to 200 kN.

Wire Rope Load Cell Uses

Typical applications include crane and hoist overload protection, winch and mooring line monitoring, guy wire and cable stay tensioning, and load monitoring in lifting and rigging systems.

Choosing a Wire Rope Load Cell

  • Diameter: confirm the sensor fits your rope diameter. This is often the first limit. Each 107CH capacity covers a set diameter range, from 6 mm (0.24 in) up to 36 mm (1.42 in) across the series.
  • Capacity: size for the maximum line pull, plus a margin for shock loads from sudden starts and stops. When a line runs over several sheaves, rope tension can be lower than the hook load.
  • Mounting: clamp-on sensors like the 107CH attach around the rope, without cutting the line or changing end fittings. Inline and dead-end sensors become part of the rigging instead.
  • Environment: outdoor and marine settings call for a high IP rating.
